Author, Frank Brehany, announces the 2nd Edition of his Consumer Book on Aircraft Cabin Air Quality

Since 2006, I have been involved in the work and advocacy on aircraft cabin air quality. That journey initially introduced me to some very brave pilots and cabin crew, and of course consumers. All had a story to tell. Aircrew spoke to their vocation in flight and how they wanted to make flying safer. For some, their dream of flying was lost due to the illnesses they had acquired from the fumes in their aircraft.

For Consumers, theirs is a story of fear, lack of information, sickness and in some cases, a loss of career.

In the years that followed, I have worked with colleagues both in the USA and across the European Union, seeking to establish an improvement in Aviation Regulation or Standards.

In 2021, I published the first edition of 'Gaspers: Clean Air for Passengers?'

The book seeks to create a trail of information to help Consumers understand the problem of contaminated cabin air, a problem that has existed since the 1950s. The book provides background, information and strategy on how to deal with your experience of a fume event onboard your flight. It delivers on the Consumer's Right to Know.

In 2026 I shall be bringing the 2nd edition of the book which I have renamed: 'Gaspers: Breathe in; now hold!'

I have reworked, considered and updated the 10 existing chapters, ensuring that all the links to my research has been fully updated. But, the book will have the benefit of an additional chapter, bringing the reader up-to-date with what has happened since 2021 and where I think this International Scandal will head next. As part of that final chapter, I shall also be including a new draft Aviation, Cabin Air Quality Regulation for the European Union.

Aviation is one of the greatest Industries on the planet. It has so much potential and so many problems. The challenges range from Climate Change to employment practices, to the exposure and health concerns for those who work and use this most unique of all transport systems.

My book, my research and my thoughts on this unique issue, demonstrates I hope, how the time has come to challenge and deliver a safer aircraft cabin environment for all. Just because an Industry is great, does not mean that it shouldn't lead the way and be a beacon of innovation.

You can get the 1st edition of 'Gaspers' here.
